Uhuru holds a quilt show biannually, which serves as a showcase for member talent and features quilts, wearable art, dolls, related craftwork, and much more. Many of our members participate in quilting bees to work on projects and hone their skills.

Every month we have a charm square exchange, where members sign up for a themed fabric exchange and receive their 6" x 6" squares by the end of the meeting, or at the next month's meeting. It's a great way to help build your stash!

We have fun at our quarterly Ugly Fabric Auctions! This year (2009) they are scheduled for March 21, June 20, September 19, and December 19.

We hold yearly raffles of quilts created by Uhuru members. The raffle quilt, “A Day in the Life of a Woman” was featured in the national NQA show in Cleveland, Ohio in June 2003. Our raffle quilt for June 2005, "Harlem Renaissance", was exhibited at the NEA Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Our patriotic-theme quilts hung at the Miller Senate Office Building from January 14 - February 28, 2009.

Uhuru believes in the importance of giving back and participates in Community Service Projects. Annually, we contribute 30 – 40 quilts to organizations such as the Ronald McDonald House, Howard University Hospital, Quilts for Wounded Soldiers, Quilts for Kids, Stoddard Baptist Home, St. Ann's Infant & Maternity Home, Quilts for Cancer, and various other hospices and homes.

If you have any questions, or wish to participate in these activities, feel free to contact the respective committee chair.
