The business meeting for the Guild will begin at 11:00 AM with a meeting of all quilt show committee chairs. This meeting will be followed by committee meetings and activities. So far all committees have met and are working to complete their tasks. The Layout, White Glove, and Program committees have mobilized the troops. Market Place has asked for donations for the raffle basket, etc. Publicity has done its job in spreading the word. The Refreshment, Children’s Corner and Celebration Committee have been meeting online. The Vendor and Site committees are finalizing details.

The success of our show will require the collaboration, efforts, and goodwill of all. Make sure that you let the White Glove committee know whether you will be working the show on Friday (set-up) and/or Saturday. Everyone who is working the show must be on Tammie’s schedule. Otherwise you will be paying admission. So far, Uhuru members have been outstanding in participating in guild events -- some more than others. Let’s not falter now.

Sewfully,
Carol

PS: I have figured out what I am doing for the 2008 Challenge Project. Hint: It involves redwork and 48 blocks.

Quilting is beautiful - admire it!

Marketplace

The Marketplace Committee is asking each member to contribute items for the marketplace as a fund raiser at the quilt show. We are asking for donations of the following items at the next meeting except where indicated.

Donated items - The monies received from these items will go to the Guild treasury.

  • Cut fabrics in 1 yd, 1/2 yd, and 3/4 yd pieces. Please fold the fabric neatly and attach a slip of paper listing the measurements to it. Your ugly fabric may be someone's beautiful fabric.
  • Fat quarters (18" x 22") - fold fabric in a square
  • Charm squares - Place 25 in a zip lock bag
  • Scraps and strips - Usable scraps (please, no tiny pieces). Please place strips and scraps in separate 1-gallon zip lock bags.
  • Orphan Blocks - place in zip lock bags. If you have multiples of the same block, place them together in a separate zip lock bag.
  • Quilt Tops - Ones you dislike will be a treasure for someone else.
  • Books and Magazines you no longer want or need
  • Usable quilting tools - e.g. hoops, rulers, patterns

Member Salable Items

Members may sell quilt-related items at the marketplace, limited as discussed at the last meeting. At the June meeting there will be a registration sheet for you to register your items. Bring the items to the quilt show location on Saturday, June 28 before 9:00 am.  Each item must be packaged and priced. All money collected by the Marketplace Committee will be distributed at the July meeting. You may pick up items not sold at the end of the show. The Committee will not accept checks - CASH ONLY. (We have to discuss the procedure for handling quilts and wearable art items costing over $50. The Committee suggests that those transactions be between the customer and the member.)

Raffle Basket Items - The Committee will be collecting quilt-related items for the raffle basket at the June meeting. The items must be new.

PLEASE BRING ALL THE PLASTIC GROCERY BAGS THAT YOU CAN SPARE TO THE NEXT MEETING.
If you have any questions, please contact any member of the Marketplace committee (Elsie Houston, Charlene Marshall, Jacke Castellanos, Brenda McKelvin, Linda McKenzie, Pat King, Sandra Ealy).

Sew Help Me...
Tips to boost your creativity

  Hand sewing a seam

Mark, Store, and Display

ID tags for your tools - Rotary cut 1" x 2" pieces from leather or felt scraps with a straight or decorative blade. Punch a hole at one end and tie a narrow cord through it. Use a permanent pen to write your name or initials on the tag, and then attach the tag through the hole in your tool.

Rotary Cutter Keeper - Store your rotary cutter in a brightly color slipper sock to make it easy to find.

Small Quilt Hanger - To display a small wallhanging, use a twisted cord drapery tie-back and a wooden dowel. The tie-back has nice loops on both ends for the dowel and comes in many attractive colors.

Workshop - "Simple Dwellings"
Saturday, June 7; 10 am - 4 pm
Middletown United Methodist Church
Fee - $40

The Clustered Spires Quilt Guild of Frederick has openings in an upcoming workshop.

Quiltmaker Sarah Pavlik will share various liberated techniques to help students design their own quilt composed of simple houses, free form trees, wacky stars, and loosely built blocks. After discussing a variety of techniques and possibilities, students will create several components and design and build their own village quilt. Students need not come with a plan, as that will be developed after we explore some ideas. An open mind is all that is needed…no experience necessary! So bring your batiks and hand dyed fabrics as well as geometric prints, fabric scraps and your favorite silk ties that have been waiting for the perfect project, and explore the field of liberated quilt making.
